ABOUT KURT

Kurt Gorrell has been an athlete and fitness enthusiast his entire life. Growing up, he played soccer for 13 years, wrestled for 4 and was a competitive gymnast for 10. After retiring from gymnastics as a competitor he started coaching team and recreational gymnastics to students ages 3 to 73. He started dancing at the late age of 20 and enjoyed a 16-year career as a professional dancer. He danced principal and soloist roles with many regional ballet companies as well as contemporary companies. Broadway National Tour credits include Contact in 2005 and Twyla Tharp’s Movin’ Out in 2008-9. In between dance engagements, Kurt turned his talents to personal training, and upon retiring from dance he transitioned to physical therapy. Kurt has a clinical doctorate in physical therapy from Russell Sage College, he is a Certified Exercise Physiologist with the American College of Sports Medicine, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association, a USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach and a certified Personal Trainer with the American Council on Exercise. He holds Pilates certifications in Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Barrel and Chair from Pilates Academy International, is a Level 1 and Level 2 Certified Core Align instructor, and he is a certified trainer in Redcord,® a dual suspension training system. Kurt is also Pilates Pre and Post-Natal certified and he is certified in Fascial Movement Taping/ Kinesiology Taping.
With his extensive knowledge of the body and his experience as a dancer, gymnast and personal trainer, he was able to develop such classes as Gymnastics for Dancers, featured in Dance Magazine (March 2011) and Gymtensity, a gymnastics conditioning class featuring a boot camp style workout involving ring training, basic gymnastics conditioning and calisthenics. Kurt has also worked closely with physicians and physical therapists to develop specific programs for his post physical therapy and cardiac rehabilitation clients. Among his clients he has trained celebrities from movies and television as well as Middle Eastern royalty
Kurt takes great pride in motivating his clients, and he is able to apply and adapt workout techniques and programs based on their individual goals, needs, fitness level and medical history. He is committed to providing his clients with an overall health and fitness education, consisting of up-to-date and beneficial techniques, which give them the tools to make the journey to their wellness goals. He has a client-focused view of health and fitness, as well as a deep commitment to helping others bring about their own sense of ongoing physical education and self-improvement.
Kurt was a Senior Gymnastics Instructor at Chelsea Piers NYC, teaching students of all ages and levels from 3 to adult, a Pilates and Redcord® instructor at Pilates on Fifth, and a private personal trainer and Pilates instructor in New York City. Kurt also worked in the New York Capital District (Albany, Troy and Schenectady) as a Pilates instructor at the Pilates Principle and Gyrotonic, a gymnastics instructor at World Class Gymnastics Academy, and a private personal trainer in downtown Albany. Kurt recently relocated to San Francisco, CA and is looking forward to bringing his talents and expertise to the Bay Area. Kurt is currently a physical therapist at Beacon Physical Therapy in the Financial District of downtown San Francisco.
